A Child Centered Curriculum
Students at Morris Jeff participate in inquiry based instruction, which encourages the natural curiosity of children and ties subject matter together in a meaningful, applicable manner. Along with standard, core subjects of language arts, math, science, and social studies, students have instruction in Spanish, the arts, and physical education daily. The Comprehensive Curriculum of Louisiana, which incorporates the state standards and grade level expectations for all grades provides the basis for all public schools in the state, including Morris Jeff where rigor and high expectations are central to teaching and learning. Faculty at Morris Jeff are developing cross disciplinary units of study which allow students to form connections across their subjects. We invite you to come and visit our classes, and meet with our faculty and principal.
Morris Jeff Community School is a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School (International Baccalaureate). These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Morris Jeff Community School believes is important for our students.
Morris Jeff students benefit from a strong support staff who provide targeted instruction for struggling students with the goal of bringing each student to and above grade level in reading, language, writing, and math. We also welcome volunteers to come and assist our students who may need extra attention, tutoring, and support, so that each Morris Jeff student reaches the high expectations set forth in our mission.
