Residents and student teachers from all areas of universities come to Morris Jeff to learn and grow as pre-service teachers at our school. College students training to be certified teachers complete residencies of one full year under the guidance of a trained, experienced mentor. Residents become fully a part of our school community - participating in daily instruction and school events. Residents provide a critical “extra” pair of hands in classrooms, benefitting all students through small group instruction, additional guidance and feedback, and a diverse perspective on the world. Although residents come to Morris Jeff to learn from experienced teachers and mentors, they often bring the latest ideas from research in the field of education…so we learn from them as well!

  • Undergraduates and graduate students at any university can be placed at Morris Jeff.
  • We provide certified and deeply committed mentors who know how to teach the students at our school and are experienced in mentoring student teachers and residents of all levels of experience and knowledge. Morris Jeff has trained mentors in almost every subject at all three campuses!
  • Residency is critical in preparing a teacher to be fully certified and take on a classroom or classes of their own.
  • Mentors and residents receive the state stipend to support growing the teaching profession.

Many undergraduate students come to Morris Jeff before their residency year to complete hours of field experience. This often creates a connection to our school through residency and employment!  We welcome all pre-service educators who want to learn with us. This is just another way that Morris Jeff supports Relentless Learners and our New Orleans community by growing the next generation of teachers.
