In cooperation with guidance from NOLA Public Schools, Morris Jeff Community School is offering in-person learning 5 days each week, so long as the health data remains strong and validated by the NOLA Department of Health.
Morris Jeff offers a Full-Time In-Person Schedule, 5 days per week for Grades 9-12 students beginning March 22. Also, we continue to serve students who elect Distance Learning for the remainder of the school year.
NOTE: Although student academic schedules and class meeting times remain the same, a few students attending In-Person will be assigned a new advisory class. Students whose advisory has changed will receive a Google Classroom invitation from their new Advisory teacher. Students must accept the invitation to join the new advisory class. Students will receive notification by email of changes.
ALL students who attend school “in-person” will be required to:
— stay home if sick and/or have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (cough, fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, headache, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea) and/or have had contact with someone with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
— have a temperature check prior to entering the school building each day.
— wear a face-covering covering the mouth and nose (unless medical documentation is in place for a waiver).
— wash hands upon entering the building, a minimum of every 2 hours during the day, and upon exiting the building.
— stay in a static group of students and have all their classes in one physical classroom throughout the school day. (Up to 33 are permitted in each classroom; our average is 16.)
— remain socially distant from others while in the classroom as much as possible.
— do classwork in assigned areas/desks.
— eat in classrooms or outdoors as directed by staff. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for students who wish to eat school meals.
— use restrooms in static groups at scheduled times during the day.
— bring bottles of water from home. Water fountains are inaccessible.
— bring school supplies every day. Students may not share supplies.
— use school Chromebooks at school. To ensure cybersecurity, personal devices won’t have access to our school’s wifi network. If a student has borrowed a school device, the student will be required to bring it back to school for in-person learning.
(NOTE: The school reserves the right to add or revise guidelines for safety and health per New Orleans Department of Health.)
IMPORTANT: Changes in students’ participation via distance learning or “in-person” status were requested in surveys sent to parents. Students who elected distance learning may not change their minds to select in-person learning.
There will be no change to students’ course schedules. Each high school period will continue to be a 60-minute class. In each class, the teacher will alert all students at home and in the building when there is a scheduled hand-washing-restroom/hand-sanitizing break. Times will vary.
WHEN YOU CHOOSE IN-PERSON SCHEDULE for your high school student:
— The in-person school day begins at 7:45 AM and ends at 3:00 PM.
— Students are already grouped according to Advisory classes as static groups. After some shifts on March 22, groups will continue until the end of the year.
— Teachers will remain in person with their assigned advisory group and teach students in academic classes via Google Meet which is accessed through Google Classroom. Teachers will no longer rotate to different class groups within the building.
IN-PERSON ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
— Students may arrive at 7:35 AM.
— Students will be greeted by their advisory teacher at their designated arrival zone for school entry. View the slides (shown at bottom) to learn the entrance for your student.
BOTH IN-PERSON AND DISTANCE LEARNING INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
— Each student’s schedule will remain in the same sequence with the same academic teachers
— Attendance requirements for days present and instructional minutes to earn Carnegie units are unchanged.
— Through Distance Learning, students are encouraged to join teachers for Office Hours from 3:00–3:40 on the teacher’s designated days of availability. Contact the teacher to confirm an appointment.
